Church of St. Donatus, c.8th-9th (The Holy Trinity), C.8 th-9th
The rotunda church of St. Donatus (the Holy Trinity) was built in the north-eastern part of the Roman forum that is within the diocesan complex. It was first mentioned in the work of Byzantine emperor and writer Constantine Porphyrogenitus "On the Governance of the Empire" about mid c.10th. Until 15th century this pre-Romanesque rotunda had been devoted to the Holy Trinity. From the same century, however, it was named after St. Donatus, the Bishop of Zadar.
The Church of St. Donatus was built from numerous fragments of monumental architectural elements of the Roman forum. The Roman forum plates can be seen in the church interior as the original flooring of this sacral structure has been removed. Two columns on the way to the shrine are of Roman origin.
