Church of St. Mary on The Square of Nun Čika
Going along The Street of Šimun Kožičić Benja (partly reconstructed Roman cardo) towards the well known Zadar Riva, on the left side of the street, or at the very Trg opatice Čike, you can find the Church of St. Mary that belongs to women’s Benedictine monastery of the same name, founded in 1066 by noblewoman named Čika who came from the old Madi family from Zadar. After pulling down a smaller, probably early medieval church, she had a new early Romanesque church built and it was consecrated in 1091.
