Capitolium
The Capitolium is the largest natural elevation of the city.Observed as a whole, the Capitolium appears as square-shaped elevation whose height dominates the forum by about 2 meters, and faces the forum with its front wall.A temple was raised in its midst,a magnificent main sanctuary of the Roman colony, dedicated to the Capitolia Triad,Jupiter,Juno and Minerva.
The bases of the statues of these deities with inscriptions, are embedded in the foundations of the Church of Saint Donatus. The temple had six fluted Corinthian columns on the facade and faced the forum.Next to the Church of Saint Simon in Zadar, there is a column erected in 1729,and made up of parts of the column from this temple (Colona).
