The Forum

The forum,the main town square,was the heart of every Roman town,the centre of public and political life.The forum in Zadar covers the largest excavated area in Croatia to present.The mirror of the forum represented the square in a specific way,with its paving and dimensions of 95x44.5 meters.

The beginning of the construction of the forum go as far back to the period when the colony was founded,around 27 BC, and its final appearance was obtained with its reconstruction at the end of the 3rd century.Bordering on three sides was a passage used for communication.Two sides were lined with retail units (tabernae) open towards the forum ...
