Because of its slanting opening this dish has very limited possibilities of use and its purpose, that is, the way it was used has been explained very differently by scientists. However, they all agree that it is a cult dish. Some authors believe that they were used as ritual tallow – candles.

Their animal shape is connected with rituals of cattle fertility, that is, the cult of fertility in general and the progress of the community with which fire and light (the hearth) and the sun as a source of life are closely connected.
