Stone and Bone Objects in The Early Neolithic
For carrying out daily tasks, tools were made of solid materials available in nature: various kinds of stone, bone and wood. Knives scrapers cutters and spikes were made of flint. Whetstones, which were made of sandstone, served to treat bone and wooden objects while grindstones made of sandstone and conglomerate were used for grinding grain. Limestone spheres were used for crumbling calcite in order to mix it with clay when making cookware. Long bones of cattle and sheep, horns and bird bones were used for making small tools like trowels, chisels, spikes, needles, etc. These objects were used for carrying out daily tasks, such as, for cleaning and scraping animal skins, pottery decoration, drilling and sewing and they also served as handles for a variety of flint tools. Pierced shells were ornaments – parts of necklaces.
