Bone Breccias
From the beginning of the geological Pleisocene period of almost two million years BC, that is, from the Old Paleolithic, there are numerous finds of petrified or fossilized bones of extinct animals. These are the so-called bone breccias which are often found among the limestone cliffs along the entire Adriatic coast. Wild horses, deer or bears, whose fossilized bones were found on the islands of Zadar, for instance, on Veli Rat or Iž, lived in the area which at that time was covered with rich pastures.
